Work Experience.

Work Experience is a program offered to students in Year 10 to open their eyes to the world of work. Normally for 2 weeks, Madcap theatre take on some students to show them how the theatre life operates. Madcap spend their time with the young teenagers teaching them new skills such as time management, organization skills, communication and confidence.

The students help out doing jobs from making props to organizing rooms, this web page is even made by work experience students.

I had a great time working at Madcap and having a chance to see how a theatre is run behind the scenes and in the office. It was great experience for me and i had great fun working with Tom (above) as well. We helped design newsletters and worked in the office with the amazing volunteers that work there. We got to tidy the green room and even though there wasnt much to do in some cases it was still really enjoyable and i couldnt wait to come back each morning.

Thank you Carolyn and to all at MADCAP :)

It was fun :)

It's a very relaxed place and the people who work here are really nice.Compared with other work experience options the times are really good. You only have to work for 4 days a week and only from 10am - 3pm. If you're interested in design, drama, music or pretty much anything creative then I strongly recommend it.

I have enjoyed my work experience at Madcap because, we have had opportunities that others havent had at their work experience, for example we got to work with the adult disability group which was different for us because we hadnt worked with them before and really enjoyed it. We also went to a networking event at a new pub and saw the mayor and got to eat some really nice food! We also had to do some of the things we expected to do like cleaning but it wasnt so bad because we had a laugh! We had alot of creative moments like making ALOT of posters and writing a workshop about circuses which i got to run though in the evening with Carolyns drama group AHEM!, they really enjoyed it. I've enjoyed my work experience at madcap because i got to do alot of different and exciting things and work with lots of different people like Alex (below). Thank you madcap for giving me a good work experience i think i will defininately benefit from it in the future, also thank you for our tickets to the scotish socks show and pins. x

They took us to a 'Networking Event' at a pub and we got to eat some lovely food. On Thursday, we helped the adult disability group make masks for their production of 'West Side Story' which was nice because the people are really sweet. In the 2nd week we varnished the mask using water and glue. We had to come up with a workshop within the theme of 'Circus' and got lots of praise when we came up with some kind of heavenly workshop that outstanded everyone because it should have never graced the minds of such simpletons like me and Keri (above). We made about 1,000,002 posters this week - not that it was bad or anything. We printed some tickets and um... I liked photocopying because the photocopier was really cool. We picked sound effects to match the workshop we came up with. We cleaned the green room and it was actually a warzone when we went in but afterwards it was... a cleanish-tidyish-still-a-bit-cluttered-but-better-than-before-warzone. Madcap has certainly given me a good look into the world of work and theatre, more particularly. I know that work can be boring at times but at madcap a lot of the time it was fun. It was nice to meet such wonderful people like Carolyn, Christine and Tony. You guys rock. I definitely made a good choice when it came to work experience so thank you very much guys! Thanks for the chocolate pixie fairy thing, Carolyn! And thanks for the Scottish Socks show tickets and pin thing.

Adios.

I have enjoyed the time I have spent working at Madcap, it has been a relaxed environment and the staff have been extremely welcoming and friendly. Whilst here I have partaken in a number of activities, I learnt how to use theatre lighting, helped to research Christmas traditions and songs over different generations for their Christmas production, also finding sound effects to be used during the play. I also designed the tickets to be sold for this production. As well as this i helped set out the hall for events and attended the Madcap music project where i was taught a little bit of how to use the recording equipment. I helped set out some lighting when some filming was being done and did the sound recording. After my experience at Madcap I have been thinking of maybe doing Music Technology.

I have really enjoyed my work experience at Madcap Theatre so far, and i have helped out with many different interesting tasks such as sorting out the costume room, putting up an art display, painting the bar, helping making a performance poster and creating a risk assessment for the secret garden. The staff at Madcap are very friendly and it is a great atmosphere to work in and i have thoroughly enjoyed it so far and i hope to help out even more and work to the maximum of my abilties.

I would definately reccommend Madcap as a place to do work experience as the activities are fun and are not like a job, there isn't always something to do but when there is it is very enjoyable and not too difficult.

Thank you Madcap!!!

I did my work experience with my friend joe we had a laugh tidying the costume and props room. We had to be very proportioned and perfectly organised when setting out the art display but it was still enjoyable to watch joe put his thumb through pain lol :P . I've had a superb time and its been very productive and I am going to miss it very much as all of the staff were very fun and all had great personalitys and I think i will come back to check out the events and projects.

Thanks Madcap Loveyouu to bits ;)

I really enjoyed work experience at Madcap. The people there are all great and very friendly, with a good sense of humour. The work they set me was also fun, the first job I got was to "Contemparise" ( aka chav it up ;) ) a Midsummer Nights Dream. When finished, it was 8 pages long ! I also volounteered to work front of house for the show "Whose turn is it anyway?", an improvised comedy show. It was brilliantly funny, and I got £10 for it!

I would definatley reccomend this work experience for ANYONE interessted in drama, as it gives you a good idea of how a theatre is run. It was a pretty big change from acting, and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you Madcap!

Well, working in Madcap is pretty much what you would expect to do at a theatre but you get more responsibilty at madcap. You do paperwork, officework, a bit of tidying up and even help teach a lesson; which is what I do for a drama group. I think my favorite part would be answering the phones and taking down messages. The atmosphere is really pleasant ; there isn't any tension and there aren't any pretences so I would say that is what makes it quite enjoyable to work here as well as learning about working in a creative industry you get to see the other side of it aswell.

I personally think it is one of the best places to work.

Working at Mad Cap has giving me the experience of office work , exploring different ideas in a music studio and even setting up for a theatre production. I also do other things like paper work, typing information on to a computer, clearing tables down and tidy up after a class.

When I first begun at madcap I didnt know what surprise I would get, whether it be good or bad, but I can honestly say that it was brilliant! I was working in a fun and relaxed environment which encouraged me to work there each day. Everyone I worked with and met was lovely and welcoming and made me feel really comfortable even though I was the annoying tag along work experience girl who was kind of in the way! I learnt a variety of different skills which i know will help me for the future and I also fulfilled all my main aims, like working in an office environment , setting up events and helping with drama activities, oh- AND.... socialising with the members of staff who work in the office! That was extra fun! I definitely reccomend other people who are interested in the arts/music to go there for work experience, mainly because i know that they'll have a fantastic time, especially if they enjoy music because there is a great music workshop which really inspired me to take up learning the guitar again! Overall, I learnt how to work in a small team and what it is like to work in a theatre but most importantly- I realised work doesnt have to be dull and boring, it can be fun!

I'm really glad I chose to come to Madcap for my work experience placement, the fun atmosphere and friendly staff make it an exciting and enjoyable place to work. It was never a boring place to be, as we were always happy with the tasks which were given to us. I would definitely recommend other year 10 students to chose Madcap for their work placement.
